About
Ruma Mian, MD
I’m Dr. Ruma Mian, a board-certified psychiatrist and founder of the Reproductive Psychiatry Clinic of Houston. I created this clinic because I wanted to provide specialized care for women with mental health challenges related to the reproductive system, hormonal fluctuations, and the resulting impact on mind, body, and lifestyle.
I completed my medical training in psychiatry at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, Virginia. I’m currently an Attending Psychiatrist and Assistant Professor at an academic hospital in the Houston area where I work on the consult/liaison service, emergency department, and adult outpatient clinic.
In 2022, I was diagnosed with Stage IV endometriosis requiring extensive excisional surgery and follow up treatment which forever changed my body. I experienced fatigue, depression, restlessness, weight gain and weakness all in a way I’d never felt before. I could no longer count on exercising as a coping tool because my body’s response to physical activity had shifted. That is when I realized that managing reproductive issues involve care far beyond traditional treatment. Being a physician, it was incredibly hard for me to accept that I was a patient, but I wanted to get my life back on track. Seeking the care needed for my own medical challenges has led me down a path of on-going self-study as a patient and clinician with expertise in integrative psychiatric care.
The silver lining of my journey is that it has given me unique insight and first-hand experience on how to help others. My style in practice is designed to elevate one’s quality of life and overall well-being, considering all of the complexities that make you whole. Together we will delve deep into nutrition, exercise, social connection, lifestyle interventions and complementary therapies, all tailored to you.
